Ron Paul on Mail Delivery

Ron Paul said on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart tonight that he would open up the United States Postal Service to competition from companies like FedEx. It is currently illegal for anyone other than the USPS to deliver first class mail.

It is clear to me that Ron Paul is a puppet of the powerful parcel delivery lobby in Congress.

Not sure if the ramblings are meant to be ironic, but the more obvious reason Ron Paul would open delivery of first-class mail to competition is that the USPS is a subsidized monopoly in this area and this goes against what Ron Paul stands for. Ron Paul would be a much wealthier candidate in the campaign sense if he had parcel delivery lobbyists in his back pocket. If I understand your rambling wrong, please forgive me, but I thought I should comment on that.

Thanks.

Ron Paul a puppet? The guy has absolutely no agenda other than the constitution.

Might want to read a little more on the guy.

Modern Day Thomas Jefferson IMO.

Corporations CANNOT contribute money at this stage of the elections, only individuals.

Ron Paul is AGAINST big gov't as he believes private companies are more efficient. Gov't just knows how to waste!

That is the basis for his idea about opening up competition ! This is what America is all about !

Cheers.

On the off-chance you weren't joking...

In 2004, the U.S. Post Office had $69 billion in revenue, and 700,000 employees.

In 2005, UPS had $42.581 billion in revenue, and 482,000 employees

In 2006, FedEx had $32.294 billion in revenue, and 275,000 employees.

In other words, the USPS is almost as big as FedEx and UPS combined.

Which group has the powerful lobby in Congress, again?

This post was an (apparently lame) attempt at humor.

There is a point, though. In order to tie Ron Paul to any kind of special interests, other than Constitutionalists, I have to make up a "powerful parcel delivery lobby."

I know sarcasm doesn't work well in text. I guess I'm a literary masocist. I think that the nature of the show he appeared on (comedy) inspired me to try to switch to comedy in this post.
